The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, recently took a tour along the Valle-Coche highway from El Poliedro in Caracas, accompanied by First Lady Cilia Flores, Minister of Popular Power for Transportation Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, and workers from the Caracas Metro. During this journey, the group provided an overview of the advancements made in the recovery and modernization of the Metro and Metro Bus facilities through the "El Metro se Mueve Contigo" plan. The presence of President Maduro behind the wheel of a Metro Bus unit was a source of strength for the workers aboard, boosting morale and emphasizing the importance of his personal involvement in the transportation system's revitalization efforts. Minister of Transportation Ramón Velásquez Araguayán shared with President Maduro that significant progress has been made in servicing and restoring 48 Metro stations, with a 98% completion rate. This has resulted in improved service for the users of the capital's subway system, enhancing their overall experience. A key highlight presented to the Head of State was the national talent and multidisciplinary approach taken in the train recovery process. The team not only manufactured spare parts but also conducted thorough studies of each train and its components, enabling effective replacements and maintenance procedures. Notably, 10 trains from Line 1 have already undergone complete refurbishment, including some of the older train models. President Maduro reiterated the comprehensive nature of the system's rescue and recovery, emphasizing the importance of advancing the construction of the remaining Metro lines, previously managed by the Odebrecht company. Despite facing resource constraints, the government is committed to furthering these crucial infrastructure projects. To ensure the complete recovery of the transportation system, three key priorities were outlined. These include achieving optimal operation of the Metro and Metro Bus services, ensuring the safety and training of personnel to guarantee public safety, and prioritizing worker welfare through improved amenities such as expanded dining facilities like the Las Adjuntas dining hall. A significant aspect of the revitalization efforts is the reactivation of 42 Metro Bus routes featuring a fully modernized system equipped with cameras, GPS, and speed limit alert systems. The restoration of 351 stops has already been completed, with plans to reach a total of 636 stops. Notably, QR codes have been installed at stops, allowing users to scan and access real-time bus arrival information. President Maduro expressed his personal commitment to delivering an efficient and modern transportation service to the people, stressing the importance of enhanced staff training and daily preventive maintenance practices. The overarching goal is to repair, recover, and improve the transportation infrastructure for the benefit of all citizens.
