The President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, is about to embark on a significant trip to Lima, Peru, where he will participate in the dialogue of leaders from the 21 economies that make up the APEC 2024 forum. Boric's arrival, scheduled for this Thursday, takes place in a context where economic cooperation and strengthening ties among nations in the Asia-Pacific region are more relevant than ever. This meeting, occurring amid global challenges, is seen as an opportunity for economic leaders to discuss strategies to confront global economic uncertainty.

The Chilean president will not only participate in the leaders' dialogue but will also take part in the APEC economic leaders' retreat plenary session on Saturday, November 16. This event brings together heads of state and government and provides a space for the exchange of ideas and the formulation of policies aimed at promoting sustainable development and economic integration in the region. After this session, Boric will hold a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, highlighting the importance of establishing closer relationships with key economies on the continent.

Accompanying President Boric on this mission will be Chile's Foreign Minister, Alberto van Klaveren, who will play a crucial role in the negotiations and dialogues that will take place. The Chilean delegation will also include members of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), who will provide a business perspective to the discussions, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in promoting economic growth.

As part of this important event, the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, has inaugurated the APEC Citizen Fair 2024 at the Pérez Araníbar Childcare Center. This space aims to bring civil society closer to the economic cooperation forum, highlighting the relevance of citizen participation in the economic and social sphere. During her speech, Boluarte emphasized that this fair represents a "great opportunity" to consolidate Peru's image as a reliable destination for responsible investments.

Boluarte has also pointed out that the forum's agenda should be substantive and generate concrete results that benefit the population. By providing tools that facilitate economic, labor, and social inclusion, the aim is for citizens to see themselves as important actors in the development process that APEC promotes. This inclusive approach is vital at a time when inequality and lack of opportunities are central issues affecting many nations in the region.

In the context of strengthening international relations, President Boluarte also received the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, at the Government Palace. This meeting highlights the pursuit of bilateral cooperation in various areas, from the economy to the fight against climate change. Both leaders will discuss the possibility of increasing economic collaboration, focusing on sustainable energy projects, a priority topic given the current context of climate crises and the need for renewable energy sources.

The Sultan's visit also includes protocol and diplomatic activities aimed at formalizing cooperation commitments through the signing of a memorandum of understanding. Such agreements are fundamental to establishing a clear framework for future collaboration and strengthening ties between Peru and Brunei.

The convergence of these diplomatic events in Lima, with Boric's arrival and the participation of other leaders, suggests a favorable moment for Latin America to position itself as a relevant actor on the global stage. Integration and dialogue are key to facing the upcoming challenges, both economic and environmental.

In this way, APEC 2024 not only presents itself as a platform for economic exchange but also as an opportunity to address crucial issues affecting the region. The proactive attitude of the region's leaders reflects a commitment to advancing toward a more collaborative and sustainable future, where each country can contribute to building a more favorable environment for the development of its citizens.

With the participation of key figures like Boric and Boluarte, as well as other leaders from APEC economies, the event is expected to generate a positive impact in the region, facilitating agreements that can translate into tangible benefits for the population. Looking ahead is crucial, and international collaboration stands out as one of the most effective solutions in a world facing economic and environmental uncertainties.
