Indecopi, in its role as the National Authority for Consumer Protection, has issued an alert regarding the need to review more than 3,000 Ford vehicles due to various issues that could compromise the safety of drivers and passengers. The affected models include the popular Ranger and Ranger Raptor, as well as other vehicles from the Maverick, Bronco Sport, and Mustang ranges, all manufactured in different countries, including Argentina, Thailand, and Mexico. In the case of the Ranger and Ranger Raptor, which total 2,490 units, the main concern lies with the anti-pinch system of the window panes. This mechanism, essential for the safety of occupants, could fail and allow the windows not to stop or reverse when detecting an obstruction. Although this situation may seem minor, it poses a risk to the well-being of passengers, especially young children, who are more vulnerable to such failures. On the other hand, 284 Maverick vehicles from model years 2022 to 2024, originating from Mexico, have calibration issues with the body control module. This defect can cause one or both rear lights to stop functioning, which not only reduces the vehicle's visibility but also increases the likelihood of accidents, particularly in low-light conditions. Additionally, 275 units of the same Maverick model, manufactured in Mexico, face a problem with the rearview camera. In this case, the image may freeze while the vehicle is in reverse, creating a false representation of the car's location in relation to its surroundings. The lack of proper visibility at this critical moment can result in collisions and other unfortunate incidents. The problem extends to another 75 vehicles, including Bronco Sport and Maverick models, that need to be inspected due to a possible sealing defect in the windshield wiper motor gearbox cover. This failure can allow water to enter, affecting the operability of the system and, consequently, the driver's visibility in rainy conditions, increasing the risk of accidents. Furthermore, 11 units of the 2024 Mustang model, manufactured in the United States, have been identified as having a critical issue with the instrument panel display. This display could turn black when the vehicle is started, preventing the driver from accessing vital information such as speed, fuel level, and engine status. The absence of this information can be alarming and potentially dangerous while driving. The impact of these mechanical failures could not only lead to accidents but also result in a loss of trust in the Ford brand, which has traditionally been synonymous with quality and safety. The attention given to reviewing these vehicles is crucial not only for consumer protection but also for the company's reputation in a highly competitive market. In light of this situation, Ford has taken the initiative to communicate with owners about the necessary inspections and the steps to ensure that their vehicles are safe for use. However, it is recommended that owners of these models contact their authorized dealerships for more detailed information and to schedule the necessary inspections. It is important to highlight that, although these failures are concerning, the recognition and swift response from Ford and Indecopi can mitigate risks and help prevent serious incidents. Transparency in handling these issues is essential for maintaining consumer trust in the brand. In a broader context, this situation underscores the importance of regulation and oversight in the automotive industry, as well as the need for consumers to be informed about any defects that may affect their safety. The responsibility of companies extends beyond offering quality products; it also includes ensuring that these products remain safe throughout their use.
