In a commendable effort to support individuals adversely affected by endosulfan exposure, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) organized an artificial limb camp that successfully provided assistance to 72 beneficiaries across the Puttur and Belthangady regions. Conducted in collaboration with the Jaipur Foot organization and the Dakshina Kannada District Health Department, the camps took place on December 18 and 19 in Puttur, followed by a session in Belthangady on December 20. This initiative aims to restore mobility and enhance the quality of life for those impacted by the harmful effects of endosulfan, a pesticide linked to severe health issues. The event highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by these individuals and underscored the need for continued support and rehabilitation. The initiative was part of MRPL’s Arogya Samrakshan Scheme, which allocated a budget of ₹12 lakh towards providing not just artificial limbs but also essential healthcare support to the affected communities. “At MRPL, we believe that corporate social responsibility is about giving back to the communities we serve. This artificial limb camp reflects our commitment to addressing pressing social issues and enhancing the quality of life for the most vulnerable,” remarked Krishna Hegde Miyar, MRPL's Chief General Manager of Human Resources. The presence of medical professionals from the Jaipur Foot organization ensured that each participant received personalized care and suitable prosthetics, reaffirming the importance of tailored rehabilitation solutions. This initiative not only facilitated physical rehabilitation but also fostered a renewed sense of hope among participants and their families, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the intervention. The camps served as an emotional gathering point, bringing together beneficiaries and community members to celebrate newfound independence and mobility. The transformation in the lives of the attendees was palpable, as many shared their stories of struggle and resilience, highlighting the profound impact of the support they received. In addition to the artificial limb camp, MRPL also donated 64 ECG machines to Primary Health Centres and Namma Clinics in Dakshina Kannada, further emphasizing its ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure within the region. As the initiative wraps up, it stands as a testament to the power of corporate social responsibility, community engagement, and the crucial role of organizations like MRPL in fostering hope, recovery, and sustained support for those in need. The commitment to create a positive change reflects a growing recognition of social responsibility as an integral part of business practices, encouraging other organizations to follow suit in their respective communities.
