In a commendable move aimed at bolstering mental health support in the Bridport community, the local branch of the south west-based law firm Porter Dodson has stepped up to lend its support to the Harmony Centre. The firm recently presented a cheque for £500 to the charity as part of its initiative to designate a charity of the year, highlighting its commitment to giving back to the local community. The Harmony Centre, known for its extensive range of mental health services, plays a crucial role in supporting individuals in Bridport. Alison Cliffe, a trustee for the charity, expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards Porter Dodson for their generosity and dedication. "We are extremely grateful for all the input and support Porter Dodson solicitors and staff have given to The Harmony Centre and improving mental health and wellbeing in the Bridport area," she said. Cliffe noted that the partnership has fostered a wonderful relationship, allowing both organizations to work closely together to enhance the lives of local residents. In addition to the initial donation, Porter Dodson plans to engage further with the Harmony Centre through fundraising and volunteer efforts. A live music evening is scheduled for February, with proceeds earmarked for the charity. Paul Watkins, a solicitor from Porter Dodson, elaborated on the firm’s motivation for supporting the Harmony Centre. "For 2024, we selected The Harmony Centre because we wanted to support a local charity who had, and will continue to have, a major impact on the local Bridport community and beyond," he explained. The firm’s commitment is underscored by the experiences of a team member who had previously volunteered at the Harmony Centre and recognized its vital work. The Harmony Centre is celebrated for its accessible services, which cater to a diverse range of needs within the community. "We all felt that improving mental health and well-being is important for everyone," Watkins emphasized, reinforcing the unanimous decision to support the charity. The firm aims to continue its fundraising efforts until April 2025, with additional initiatives under consideration. Rachel Coney, Chair of Trustees for the Harmony Centre, echoed the sentiment of gratitude, highlighting the significance of local business support for charities. With 2024 marking a decade of service for Harmony, the funds raised will be instrumental in enhancing their new premises on St Michael's Trading Estate, enabling them to purchase much-needed equipment and continue offering critical services to both new and existing visitors. The Harmony Centre is a beacon of hope for many in West Dorset, providing essential mental health resources, friendly advice, free weekly activities, and crisis support through its Community Front Room service. As the collaboration between Porter Dodson and the Harmony Centre unfolds, it promises to make a lasting impact on the mental health landscape of the Bridport community.
