The GAC Emkoo HEV has arrived in Peru as the brand's first self-recharging hybrid SUV, and after an extensive test under the intense traffic conditions of Lima, results have emerged that promise to revolutionize the vehicle market in the country. This model, which has been on sale since this year, has been designed to tackle the challenges presented by one of the most congested cities in Latin America while also being mindful of fuel efficiency. The consumption test was conducted in a scenario that combined Lima's traffic with highway driving. During this process, the SUV was used by a couple of occupants, with a total weight of up to 140 kg. It is important to highlight that the vehicle was operated in its three driving modes: hybrid, electric, and gasoline, although hybrid mode was chosen most of the time. This choice was made with the intention of maximizing engine performance and adapting to urban traffic needs. One of the most relevant aspects of the Emkoo HEV is its engine. With a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle engine complemented by an electric generator, it achieves a combined power of 179 hp and a torque of 300 nm. These figures are more than competitive for a mid-size SUV, especially in a context where fuel efficiency has become a decisive factor for consumers. The Atkinson engine technology is key in this model, as it allows the engine to operate more efficiently, consuming less fuel. In addition, the system features a ternary lithium battery that powers the electric motor, resulting in a cleaner and quieter driving experience, especially in urban environments where noise and emissions are constant concerns. During the test, the Emkoo HEV demonstrated its ability to run in electric mode upon startup, resulting in an almost silent ride at low speeds. As speed increases, the vehicle automatically switches between hybrid and gasoline modes based on what the system's computer deems most efficient. This automation not only enhances the driver’s experience but also optimizes vehicle performance according to road conditions. Energy recovery is another highlighted feature. The regenerative braking system allows energy generated from deceleration to be stored in the battery, contributing to the vehicle's overall efficiency. This system can be adjusted according to driving style, allowing for a personalized experience that can cater to drivers with different preferences. In terms of transmission, the Emkoo HEV is equipped with a delicate hybrid transmission, which allows for the simultaneous and efficient management of energy sources. This type of transmission is particularly beneficial when immediate power is needed, enabling the electric motor to activate quickly when accelerating from a stop. The weight of the vehicle also plays an important role in its performance. With a net weight of 1,540 kg and a length of almost 4.7 meters, the Emkoo HEV presents itself as a competitive option in its segment. After ten days of use, the vehicle had covered 631 kilometers, showcasing a remarkable range, especially compared to other gasoline vehicles on the market, which typically offer between 450 and 500 km. Finally, the results of the consumption test are promising. With an average of 5.8 liters per 100 km, which is approximately 65 km per gallon, the Emkoo HEV proves to be a viable and efficient option. Based on the total range achieved, it can be concluded that the mixed consumption stands at around 50 km per gallon, representing a significant advancement compared to other SUVs in its category. This superior performance in fuel efficiency, with nearly 40% better performance than its competitors, positions the GAC Emkoo HEV as an attractive option for Lima drivers seeking a balance between performance and sustainability in their daily travels. With this offering, GAC Motor not only enters the hybrid vehicle market in Peru but also sets a new standard in terms of efficiency and automotive technology.
