In a business world where effective leadership has become a scarce commodity, Jorge Rosas, CEO of WeWow, positions himself as a critical and reflective voice on the need to form "legendary teams." During his presentation at the webinar "How to Create Legendary Teams," organized by Open English, Rosas emphasized that the essence of leadership lies more in action than in words. According to him, leaders must be role models and act with consistency to inspire their teams. This, in turn, establishes a solid foundation for building a work environment where trust and collaboration thrive. Rosas argues that good leaders are the exception rather than the rule. In his analysis, the fact that many leaders are inconsistent between what they say and what they do translates into demotivated and misaligned teams. "In five seconds, people do what they see their leader doing, not what they say," he highlighted, underscoring the profound influence a leader's behavior has on team dynamics. This type of leadership is not about holding a title but about taking responsibility for guiding others and setting aside personal ego. The CEO of WeWow proposes a set of three fundamental questions that leaders should ask their teams to foster a true connection: "What is your story?", "What is your dream?" and "How can I help you achieve it?". These questions not only promote an atmosphere of openness but also allow leaders to understand the individual aspirations of their collaborators, which is crucial for developing a cohesive team. Rosas also presented a dilemma faced by many organizations: the investment in leadership training. Often, companies worry about the cost of training their leaders, fearing that once trained, they will leave. However, he argues that not training them could be even more costly, as they would lack the necessary skills to guide their teams, which in the long run could lead to the loss of valuable talent. In his presentation, Rosas introduced the five "R" method for cultivating exceptional leadership. The first pillar is the ability to attract and retain the team's "Rockstars." This involves not only identifying and nurturing talent but also creating an environment where all members feel valued and can fully contribute. Using Lionel Messi as an example, Rosas emphasized that true leadership lies in being "the best for the team," rather than seeking personal stardom. The second pillar is "Challenge," which involves constructively challenging the team to promote their growth. Rosas underscores the importance of finding the balance between challenging and supporting, as an effective leader must know when to push their team and when to provide the necessary support to avoid burnout. He cites the case of the South African Springboks as an example of how leadership can unite and strengthen a group in the face of monumental challenges. The "Route," the third pillar, refers to the leader's responsibility to help chart a clear path for the development of their collaborators. This path must be realistic and aligned with individual capabilities. Rosas mentions Tom Brady as an example of how a leader can overcome adversities and achieve success through a strategic and reflective approach. "Feedback" is the fourth essential component in forming legendary teams. Rosas highlights the need to provide continuous and constructive feedback, ensuring that it not only changes behaviors but also beliefs. Effective feedback comes from empathy and care, a valuable lesson he learned during his time at Disney. Finally, the pillar of "Reinforce" emphasizes the importance of establishing strong bonds within the team. Rosas argues that a strong team is not only made up of talented individuals but also of deep connections among them. Investing time in building trusting relationships can be the decisive factor for a team to function effectively, especially in times of crisis. Jorge Rosas concludes that the key to effective leadership lies in consistency, openness to development, and the strength of relationships among team members. In an environment where collaboration and trust are essential, building legendary teams becomes a priority for organizations seeking not only excellence but also to leave a lasting legacy in their field. In an increasingly competitive world, it may be time for companies to reconsider how they define and cultivate leadership.
