In a context marked by the imminent inauguration of the Chancay port, the Ministry of Education (Minedu) has launched a series of initiatives aimed at preparing Peruvian youth for the challenges and opportunities that this new port infrastructure will bring. During an emotional graduation ceremony for the 2024-I class of ADEX Institute, Education Minister Morgan Quero emphasized the importance of establishing strong partnerships between the public sector, private sector, and civil society, with the goal of fostering an environment conducive to the comprehensive development of young people. Quero stressed that the arrival of the Chancay port represents a historic opportunity for the country that must be properly capitalized. “We are committed to making education a bridge to labor inclusion and personal growth,” he stated. According to the minister, cooperation among the various parties involved is essential to train qualified professionals who can meet the needs of the labor market, especially in sectors related to export and international trade. Minedu has designed an action plan that includes increasing resources allocated to education, as well as improving teacher training. In this regard, the minister announced a significant increase in the number of scholarships in the Beca 18 program, which will rise from 5,000 to 10,000, allowing more young people to access quality education and prepare for the workforce. “Investing in education is investing in the future of the country,” he asserted. During his speech, the minister urged ADEX Institute graduates to make the most of the opportunities presented to them and to become agents of change in their communities. “Peru needs your talent to achieve ambitious and just goals,” Quero expressed, reaffirming the need for young people to take a leading role in national development. The economic outlook was also addressed during the ceremony, with optimistic projections regarding the growth of Peruvian exports. According to the Center for Research on Global Economy and Business of the Exporters Association (CIEN-ADEX), Peruvian shipments are expected to grow by 1.9% in 2024, despite the global and local risks on the horizon. This expectation suggests that, with the Chancay port in operation, opportunities for young people in foreign trade will increase significantly. The Executive President of PromPerú, Claricia Tirado Díaz, also spoke to the graduates, highlighting the importance of their role in the economic and social development of Peru. Tirado Díaz emphasized the need for a collective commitment to address poverty, which currently affects around 29% of the population. “You are at a decisive moment; you will be fundamental in the effort to accelerate the country's development,” she stated enthusiastically. The official shared her own experience as a graduate of ADEX Institute, recalling the passion that drove her to pursue a career in international business. “Education is the engine that drives us to be better and to contribute to the well-being of society,” she reflected. Her message resonated with the young people, who were eager to embark on a new stage in their professional lives. The efforts of Minedu and other entities aim not only for academic training but also for the development of practical skills that facilitate the labor insertion of young Peruvians. In an increasingly competitive world, it is crucial that new professionals have the tools to adapt and excel in the job market. The success of the Chancay port and its impact on the national economy will largely depend on the ability of young people to integrate into this new context. With the support of the government and the private sector, it is expected that new generations will take on the challenge of contributing to the country's growth, carrying with them the hope for a more prosperous future for all. Education, therefore, stands as the fundamental pillar for achieving these objectives, and collaboration among all involved parties will be key to transforming this opportunity into a tangible reality.
