On the afternoon of Wednesday, July 24, the Extremadura Forest Fire Fighting Plan (Infoex) declared level 1 of danger in three forest fires affecting the towns of Ribera del Fresno, Alange, and Puebla del Maestre in the province of Badajoz. These emergency situations have mobilized a total of 17 personnel and multiple resources to combat the advance of the flames and protect the nearby communities. In Ribera del Fresno, the fire started at 3:45 p.m., triggering the activation of level 1 at 4:15 p.m. due to its impact on the local roads. Initial efforts have focused on controlling the active perimeters, with three ground units, an airborne team, and a natural environment agent working to address the emergency. In Alange, the proximity of the fire to the urban area led to the activation of level 1 at 4:52 p.m. In this scenario, a ground team, a helicopter, two planes, a team from the Badajoz Fire Department Consortium, an airborne team, and a natural environment agent are deployed to contain and extinguish the flames threatening the population's safety. Finally, in Puebla del Maestre, level 1 was declared at 5:50 p.m. after the fire started at 4:35 p.m. and affected a local road. At this location, three ground units, an airborne team, a heavy machinery team, and two natural environment agents are working on extinguishing and controlling the active fronts. These emergency situations highlight the importance of having rapid and effective response systems for forest fires, as well as the bravery and dedication of the firefighting teams who risk their lives to protect communities and preserve the natural environment. Coordination among the various bodies and organizations involved is essential to address these situations that endanger people's lives and the region's biodiversity. It is crucial to remember the importance of prevention and public awareness in preserving forests and reducing the risk of forest fires. The collaboration of the population in reporting negligent or suspicious behaviors that could trigger these disasters is essential to protect our natural environment and prevent tragedies like the ones currently facing the towns of Ribera del Fresno, Alange, and Puebla del Maestre. In times like these, solidarity and mutual support become essential to face adversity and overcome challenges. Competent authorities continue to work tirelessly to control the situation and ensure the safety of all residents in the affected areas, trusting in the prompt extinguishment of the fires and the recovery of the damaged ecosystems.
