The duplication of the BR-163, key for the development of Mato Grosso, is advancing.

In a recent interview with the national portal Poder360, the president of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), Bruno Dantas, emphasized the importance of the transfer of corporate control of Rota do Oeste to MT Par. This decision, which at the time was considered risky, has allowed for progress in the development of road infrastructure in Brazil, specifically on BR-163, one of the country's most important highways. Dantas stressed that the collaboration between the Government of Mato Grosso and various entities, including the State Secretariats of Finance, Infrastructure, and Logistics, as well as the TCU and the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), has been crucial in achieving this progress. "Governor Mauro Mendes contacted us with the proposal to negotiate the reconfiguration of the highway, and this measure has been fundamental in preventing the stagnation of development in the region," Dantas stated. BR-163, which runs through the state of Mato Grosso from north to south, is vital for Brazilian agribusiness due to its role in the export of agricultural products. However, over the years, this highway has also been known for its high accident rates and transportation delays, which have affected the country's competitiveness on the international stage. Governor Mauro Mendes shared his vision on the importance of this highway, considering it "the backbone of Brazilian agriculture." For years, the Government of Mato Grosso sought alternatives to improve the situation of Rota do Oeste, facing numerous obstacles due to liabilities and financial complexities. However, with the new concession, there are hopes to enhance driver safety and simultaneously create a positive impact on the region's economy. So far, the joint effort has led to the completion of the first 15 kilometers of the road duplication project, with remarkable results: an 86 percent reduction in recorded fatalities along the route since its inauguration. This progress has demonstrated that when authorities and the private sector join forces, significant results can be achieved in infrastructure matters. The New Rota do Oeste is currently working on various fronts, including the duplication of different sections of the highway, as well as earthworks and the construction of viaducts. These initiatives are essential to ensure smooth traffic flow and improve road safety at a time when the demand for efficient goods transportation is increasingly critical. The case of Rota do Oeste has not only been a local success story but has also become a national reference on how to address infrastructure issues through collaboration between the public and private sectors. The signing of the Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC) between the Government of Mato Grosso and the ANTT has been a decisive step in this process, allowing for the resumption of works that had been stalled for years. With a total investment of R$ 7.8 billion planned for the duplication of 336 kilometers of BR-163 and other complementary works, this project is seen as a potential engine for economic growth.
