Barranquilla is in full swing as it prepares for the arrival of the Carnaval de la 44, one of the most emblematic and anticipated festivities of the year. This Tuesday, the monarchy of the bordilló festival, led by Queen Alexsandra Estarita, officially presented the agenda of events that will enliven the celebration between February and March. The presentation took place at the Trucupey nightclub, where not only the schedule of activities was revealed, but also the launch of the official carnival song video. Carnival director Edgar Blanco opened the event by welcoming the royalty and emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the folkloric traditions of Colombia's Caribbean coast. "In Barranquilla, this is how we dance," he stated, evoking the famous phrase from artist Shakira, who will also perform at one of the carnival events. The energy and enthusiasm were palpable among the attendees, who are preparing to immerse themselves in the culture and folklore that characterize these festivities. During his speech, Juancho Jaramillo, the new manager of Carnaval S.A.S, highlighted the support that the Barranquilla mayor's office has provided for the event's realization. "Our mayor Alejandro Char has always supported Barranquilla's culture," he stressed, emphasizing the affection that the people of Barranquilla have for the Carnaval de la 44, an event that complements the central carnival and offers a space for authentic and accessible fun for everyone. The celebration will kick off on February 8 with the Collective Flag Raising at San Nicolás Church at 3:00 p.m. From that moment on, the city will be adorned with color and joy, culminating in the coronation of the Kings of the 44 on Saturday, February 15, at La Paz Square. This event, which promises to be a true party, will feature renowned artists such as Juan Piña and Lowe León, and will be completely free, ensuring that the celebration is inclusive and accessible. One of the most anticipated moments will be the "Sonia Osorio" Battle of Flowers, a folkloric parade that marks 26 years of tradition and will take place on March 1. This event, which will begin at 72nd Street and 44th Avenue, promises to be an explosion of color and culture, highlighting the importance of music and dance in the lives of the people of Barranquilla. The day will conclude with the participation of Carnaval de la 44 at Bestival 2025, which will also take place at La Paz Square. The carnival will continue with the Grand Parade "Carlos Franco" on March 2, a parade that will traverse the streets of Barranquilla, and will culminate with the event "Conquista del Carnaval" on March 4, celebrating 45 years of tradition. This last parade will have a route from 44th Street and 8th Avenue to the Simón Bolívar neighborhood, offering an afternoon full of joy and community participation. Carnival queen Alexsandra Estarita made it clear that her reign aims to highlight the festive and uncomplicated atmosphere that characterizes the Carnaval de la 44. Focusing on family fun, Alexsandra committed to creating a space where everyone can enjoy without restrictions. "This is a bordilló carnival, where everyone is welcome to enjoy and celebrate," she asserted, as her reign is framed within a strong sense of belonging and community. The child queen, Daniela Chapman, also shared her excitement about participating in this celebration, inviting everyone present to join in. "It's free, this is bordilló and full of flow, as my queen Alex says," she commented, highlighting the inclusive and family-friendly essence of the carnival. A highlight of the event was the launch of the music video for the queen's official song, which reflects her connection with Barranquilla and its people. "I have lived in this city since I was little and have always had a special bond with its culture," expressed Alexsandra. Her story about how the song was created is a testament to the love and creativity that emanate from the Barranquilla community. Thus, Barranquilla is preparing to welcome the Carnaval de la 44 with open arms, honoring its rich cultural and folkloric tradition. The city, known for its warmth and joy, is ready to vibrate to the rhythm of music and dance, where every barranquillero can feel part of this grand celebration that unites and represents them.
