A worldwide flaw in Microsoft systems has caused chaos and complications for millions of users around the world. The cause behind this massive disruption has been identified as an incorrect update in the cybersecurity platform of CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity provider linked to the Microsoft operating system. This incident has impacted companies from various sectors, including airports and essential services such as the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom. The appearance of the dreaded blue screen, known as the "blue screen of death" (BSOD), has been the most obvious symptom of this malfunction in Windows operating systems. This critical error has left Microsoft Azure and 360 users in a state of frustration and bewilderment as they seek solutions to continue their daily activities. Amidst this technological chaos, George Kurts, president and CEO of CrowdStrike, has clarified that this is not a security incident or a cyberattack, but a failure in the update of their cybersecurity platform. However, the repercussions of this error have been significant, affecting companies and users worldwide, with Mexico being one of the countries most impacted by this disruption. In Mexico, the consequences of this flaw have resulted in flight delays and complications for various airlines such as AeroMexico, Volaris, and Interjet. Likewise, essential services and businesses that rely on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 have seen their daily operations affected, generating a chain of problems that extend across different sectors of the economy. Internationally, airports such as Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Heathrow International Airport in London, Frankfurt International Airport, among others, have experienced disruptions in their systems, causing delays and complications in flights that have impacted thousands of passengers worldwide. CrowdStrike, the cybersecurity company responsible for the incorrect update, is known for offering advanced solutions to protect organizations against digital threats. Founded in 2011, the company has stood out for its focus on cloud-based protection and the use of artificial intelligence to combat cyberattacks, working closely with platforms like Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. In response to this technological crisis, Microsoft has provided various solutions to address the problem, urging affected users to restart their devices as a first step to try to resolve the flaw. However, some users have reported the need to restart their devices multiple times, even up to 15 attempts, before achieving normal operation of their systems. Additionally, Microsoft recommends restoring a backup or repairing the operating system disk offline if the flaw persists. These processes can be challenging for less experienced users, adding a layer of difficulty to this already problematic situation. In the midst of this global technological crisis, uncertainty and frustration grip users of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, who see their daily activities hindered by an error that has exposed the fragility of the technological infrastructure we rely on in the digital age.
