In an effort to address the growing number of dengue cases in the country, the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud) has launched an innovative initiative called "The Dengue Game." Inspired by the popular series "Squid Game," this activity took place at the Central Station of the Metropolitano in Lima and aims to educate and raise awareness among the population about disease prevention. The campaign is part of the "Act Against Dengue" plan, which seeks to inform about the necessary measures to avoid infections and the spread of this disease. Dr. Edwin Neciosup, head of the Office of Intelligence and Health Information at EsSalud, has reported that, as of January 20, there have been 1,410 cases of dengue reported in the country. Alarmingly, children aged 0 to 17 make up almost 40% of those affected. This concerning statistic has prompted authorities to implement preventive measures at various strategic points in Lima to proactively address the situation. During the event, attendees enjoyed an informative circuit that combined learning with entertainment. Specialists and healthcare staff interacted with characters from "Squid Game" and a mosquito representing the dengue transmitter. Through games and quizzes, crucial information was provided about preventive measures, symptoms to watch for, and actions that can be taken to avoid infection. The enthusiasm of the participants was palpable, as they learned about proper handwashing, eliminating mosquito breeding sites in their homes, and effective use of repellents. These activities not only focused on providing information but also included medical advice in various areas such as general medicine, nutrition, and nursing. Additionally, a vaccination campaign was carried out to protect against highly relevant diseases such as hepatitis B, yellow fever, and pneumococcus. The Flexible Offer Management (GOF) of EsSalud emphasizes that this strategy aims not only to inform the population but also to address their health needs in public spaces where there is a high influx of people. EsSalud's commitment is clear: to continue these activities in other key areas of the capital to ensure that information and resources reach as many people as possible. Dengue is a disease that can be severe and, in some cases, fatal. Therefore, it is essential for the population to be aware of its prevention. EsSalud's campaign aims not only to reduce cases but also to raise awareness about the importance of everyday actions that can make a difference in the fight against this disease. It is important to highlight that the climatic situation also plays a crucial role in the increase of dengue cases. While Lima is experiencing cold days, the Peruvian jungle is suffering from a heatwave, contributing to the proliferation of mosquitoes, the vectors of the dengue virus. This underscores the need to remain vigilant and implement prevention strategies in all regions of the country. The success of "The Dengue Game" will depend on the commitment and collaboration of the citizens. It is imperative that each person takes responsibility for prevention, not only through education but also by taking concrete actions in their homes and communities. The fight against dengue is a collective effort that requires the active participation of all. EsSalud's initiative is an important step toward creating a culture of prevention in the country. The combination of education, entertainment, and health services in a single event is a model that could be replicated in other public health campaigns. As the population becomes involved and empowered with information and resources, a favorable scenario is created to reduce the incidence of diseases like dengue and improve public health overall.
