In a significant initiative aimed at promoting health awareness, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) hosted a two-day health screening and awareness camp focused on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in collaboration with the University Health Centre. The event, conducted under the auspices of the IUST-PURSE project, took place in Awantipora and attracted a diverse group of participants, including faculty members, non-teaching staff, security personnel, scholars, and students. The primary goal of the camp was to raise awareness about NCDs—conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, and cancers that pose a significant threat to public health. With the rising incidence of these diseases globally, the camp aimed to not only inform participants of the risks associated with NCDs but also to gauge their prevalence within the university community. Over the course of the two days, attendees underwent comprehensive health screenings which included blood sample collections. These screenings are crucial, as they provide essential data that can help in identifying at-risk individuals and devising effective strategies for prevention and management of these chronic conditions. Moreover, the camp offered valuable education on how to prevent and manage NCDs, empowering participants with knowledge about lifestyle modifications, dietary changes, and regular health check-ups. Organizers emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering a culture of health consciousness among university populations. As non-communicable diseases continue to impact millions worldwide, early detection and education play vital roles in curbing their prevalence. The participation from a wide range of university staff and students reflects a growing recognition of the need to prioritize health and wellness in academic environments. The collaboration with the University Health Centre has further strengthened the university's commitment to the health of its community. By investing in health awareness projects, IUST not only supports its members but also contributes to the broader public health narratives, encouraging proactive health management practices. As the camp concluded, the feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to gain insights into their health and the importance of regular screenings. This initiative serves as a reminder of the essential role educational institutions play in promoting health awareness and the need for ongoing efforts to combat the challenges posed by non-communicable diseases.
