The Judiciary has decided to extend the exit ban for six months against former Deputy Minister of Transport, Jorge Cuba, in the context of the scandal that has shaken Peruvian politics due to irregularities related to the Lima Metro case. This decision comes at a crucial moment, as investigations into corruption in the country continue to expand and affect a wide range of officials and companies involved in public infrastructure. The Public Ministry, through the Lava Jato Special Team, has been making significant efforts to clarify the facts related to the Odebrecht case and its ramifications in the construction sector in Peru. In this sense, the firm Ingenieros Civiles y Contratistas Generales S.A. (ICCGSA) has reached a plea bargain that promises to benefit both the prosecution and the Public Prosecutor's Office Ad Hoc for the Odebrecht case. This agreement is indicative of efforts to regain public trust and ensure that those responsible for acts of corruption are brought to justice. The agreement signed by prosecutor Germán Juárez Atoche will be submitted to the jurisdictional body for approval, which could lead to new revelations about the corrupt practices carried out in the context of various public infrastructure projects. Through this collaboration, ICCGSA is required to refrain from participating in projects related to the construction and maintenance of road infrastructure, which represents a significant blow to the company, a major contractor in the country. It is important to note that the agreement also establishes penalties for former ICCGSA executives, who, as cooperating individuals, face conditions of suspended prison sentences. This measure reflects the Peruvian judicial system's approach to addressing not only the companies involved but also the individuals who have played a role in the systemic corruption that has affected the country in recent years. This process of effective collaboration is not limited to the Lima Metro case but encompasses a series of emblematic projects that have come under scrutiny. Among them are the Construction Club, sections 2 and 3 of IIRSA Sur, and the expansion of the Moquegua Hospital, highlighting the extent of corruption in the construction sector. It is essential that those involved in these cases take responsibility for their actions and that mechanisms are implemented to ensure greater transparency in the execution of public projects. The cooperation of companies with the justice system is a positive step towards recovering misappropriated resources and restoring public trust in institutions. On the other hand, the case of Jorge Cuba is not isolated. The recent extension of the investigation period by the Judiciary regarding Odebrecht's contributions to the 2011 campaign, now extending to 24 months, indicates that there are still many loose ends to tie up. It serves as a reminder that the fight against corruption is a long and complex process that requires commitment and determination. The current situation reflects a climate of tension in the country, where the public demands answers and concrete actions to eradicate corruption. Citizens have expressed their discontent through various platforms, demanding that those responsible be brought to justice and that reforms be implemented to prevent the recurrence of these scandals in the future. In this context, the extension of the exit ban against Jorge Cuba is considered a necessary measure to ensure his presence in the investigations and prevent the former deputy minister from evading justice. Thus, the Judiciary reaffirms its commitment to the rule of law and the fight against impunity, key aspects for strengthening democracy in Peru. With each new revelation in this case, Peruvian society faces the reality of a system that has been plagued by corruption. However, the willingness of the authorities to pursue these crimes and ensure accountability is an encouraging sign in the search for a more transparent and just future for all Peruvians.
