The fire that broke out between La Marchenilla and Pelayo, in the municipality of Algeciras, has been stabilized by the Infoca Plan at 3:16 PM this Saturday, after several hours of intense battle against the flames. The fire, which started around 12:08 PM, has mobilized a significant deployment of aerial and ground resources for its control, affecting an area close to the Natural Parks of Los Alcornocales and the Strait. The firefighting operation has been coordinated by the Forest Fire Extinction Service of Andalusia, which has sent a large team to address the emergency. Since 3:00 PM, efforts have focused on the right flank and tail of the fire, where two fire reinforcement brigades, four groups of forest firefighters, an operations technician, an environmental agent, as well as a fire truck and a bulldozer, are working tirelessly. In the air, seven aircraft are operating, including two medium helicopters, one heavy helicopter, one light helicopter, two light water bombers, and a coordination plane. The situation has drawn the attention of bathers at Getares beach, who have observed how helicopters were collecting water from the mouth of the Pícaro River. This impressive sight serves as a reminder of the seriousness of the situation and the need for a quick and effective response to wildfires, which can endanger both the environment and people's safety. Infoca has made it clear that it will maintain all efforts in the area until the fire is declared controlled. This stance highlights the importance of prevention and emergency management in a context where climatic conditions, such as high temperatures, can exacerbate the situation. The mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce, has not hesitated to express his gratitude to all those who have participated in the fight against the fire. In a statement, he emphasized the collective effort of the Junta de Andalucía and the Infoca Plan, as well as the Local Police, Civil Protection, and the Civil Guard. "Collaboration has been essential in these circumstances," highlighted the mayor. Additionally, Landaluce has maintained constant communication with the relevant authorities, including the Minister of the Presidency, Antonio Sanz, the Secretary General of the Interior, David Gil, and the Deputy Delegate of the Junta in the Campo de Gibraltar, Javier Ros. This ongoing dialogue ensures that the most appropriate decisions are made to effectively control the situation. In light of the fire threat, Landaluce has called on citizens to take extra precautions when enjoying outdoor activities, warning that any carelessness could lead to serious consequences. During times of high temperatures, the need to be responsible and respect safety regulations is more important than ever. The stabilization of the fire is a relief for the residents of Algeciras and for tourists visiting the area. However, the community remains vigilant, hoping that the coming hours will continue in the same vein of control and that the fire will soon be completely extinguished. This event highlights the vulnerability of ecosystems and the need for a quick and organized response to emergencies. Cooperation among different entities and public awareness are fundamental for the prevention of future fires. At the end of the day, the safety and protection of our natural environments must be a priority for all.
