In a context where sustainability and environmental protection are priority topics on the global agenda, Caja Cusco has taken a significant step by presenting its new financial product called "Agroprotector." This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable agricultural practices and protect the country’s forested areas, a concern that has gained momentum in recent years, especially in a country like Peru, where agriculture is a fundamental pillar of the economy and cultural identity. "Agroprotector" is the result of a strategic collaboration between Caja Cusco and the Ministry of the Environment, with technical assistance from German development cooperation. This new financial product aims not only to offer loans but also to foster a financing model aligned with sustainability principles that positively impacts the country's biodiversity. Luis Fernando Vergara Sahuaraura, President of the Sustainability, Inclusion, and Compliance Committee at Caja Cusco, emphasized the importance of this initiative by stating that it represents "an important step toward the transformation of our local economy." The "Agroprotector" portfolio includes a series of conventional loans specifically designed for the rural and agricultural sector. Among these are products like Myper Agropecuario, Agropuntualito, and Agrorapidito, as well as green loans aimed at promoting the sustainable use of resources, such as Rural Biodigesters, Agronativo, and of course, Agroprotector. This variety of options will allow farmers and entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector to access financing that not only helps them grow but also actively contributes to the preservation of the natural environment. At the launch event, which brought together a diverse group of representatives from various institutions, the importance of such initiatives for local economic development was highlighted. Attendees included members of the Board and Joint Management of Caja Cusco, as well as representatives from the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Risk. The presence of these institutions reflects a joint commitment to advancing toward an economic model that prioritizes sustainability and social inclusion. By presenting "Agroprotector," Caja Cusco aims to position itself as a leader in sustainable finance within the region. The bank has understood that the transition to a greener economy is not only an ethical imperative but also a business opportunity. By offering loans that align with the needs of farmers while promoting environmental conservation, Caja Cusco places itself at the forefront of a sector that increasingly demands more responsible initiatives. It is important to note that this proposal not only responds to market demand but also represents an opportunity to combat serious issues such as climate change. Implementing sustainable agricultural practices can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, an urgent objective in a global context where global warming threatens food security and the well-being of millions. "The launch of the Agroprotector financial product marks the beginning of a new era in sustainable banking in the region," enthusiastically stated Vergara Sahuaraura. This positive outlook aligns with global trends that point toward an increasing integration of sustainability into business models, especially in critical sectors like agriculture. However, the path to sustainability requires a continuous commitment from both financial institutions and producers. It is essential that the beneficiaries of these loans understand the importance of adopting practices that reduce their environmental impact and promote biodiversity conservation. Education and training will play a crucial role in this process. The presentation of "Agroprotector" comes at a key moment, as the Minister of Energy and Mines also announced the "Pampas Verdes" project, which includes an investment of US$6.5 billion. This synergy between different government sectors and financial institutions can significantly enhance the country’s capacity to address the environmental and social challenges ahead. With this approach, Caja Cusco not only seeks to transform the way agricultural activities are financed in the region but also commits to contributing to a future where sustainability and economic development go hand in hand, thus ensuring a legacy for future generations. The "Agroprotector" initiative could serve as a model in the quest for a balance between economic growth and environmental conservation.
