The installation of modular bridges that will facilitate access to the new Jorge Chávez International Airport is advancing rapidly, with the completion of this project scheduled for August 23, ahead of the initially established timeline. The news was announced by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Pérez Reyes, during the signing of Addendum No. 8 of the concession contract with Lima Airport Partners (LAP). This addendum marks a milestone in the construction and operation of the airport, which is projected to be one of the most important in Latin America. Pérez Reyes explained that the signing of the addendum will provide legal viability for the necessary infrastructure works, especially the internal roads that will connect the new passenger terminal with the modular bridges. These bridges, which are being built by Provías Nacional, will not only facilitate access to the airport but also ensure smooth traffic on one of the area's most critical routes. The importance of these structures is fundamental to the operational success of the airport, which is expected to be ready to welcome travelers in the near future. The addendum also includes a partial and temporary suspension of the payment of compensation to the state by LAP. This strategic measure aims to free up financial resources that will be allocated to the construction of the internal roads, thereby ensuring that the airport's building process does not suffer delays. This decision has been received as a positive step towards the realization of a project that will benefit the economy and tourism in Peru. The modular bridges, which are 81.9 meters long and will feature a dual-lane design, are being installed over the Rímac River at the intersection of Nuevo Aeropuerto and Morales Duárez avenues. These structures are key to connecting the passenger terminal with the rest of the infrastructure that will make up the new airport, which in turn translates to more agile and secure access for users. At the signing ceremony of the addendum, prominent officials from LAP and the Ministry of Transport and Communications were present, expressing their commitment to the project's advancement and its importance to the region. LAP's general manager, Juan José Salmón, along with financial director Pilar Vizcarra, reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring that the new airport meets international standards of quality and efficiency. The new Jorge Chávez International Airport, with construction progress exceeding 90%, is positioned to become a top-tier commercial hub in Latin America. With the doubling of the number of boarding bridges compared to the current airport, this terminal is expected to significantly optimize flight management and, consequently, improve the passenger experience. Projections indicate that by the end of 2025, the airport's capacity to accommodate passengers will expand to 40 million annually, marking a significant step for the tourism sector while attracting investments and generating employment in various areas. The inclusion of a modern passenger terminal, two runways, and a new control tower, among other facilities, promises to transform the airport landscape of the country. In addition to the direct benefits to passengers, the new airport also envisions comprehensive development with additional services such as hotels, commercial spaces, a cargo area, and a logistics park. The modernization of airport infrastructure will not only facilitate traveler access but also boost trade and logistics growth in the region. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has also emphasized that the execution of this project, which will triple the size of the current airport terminal, will consolidate Peru as the main commercial and tourist hub of the region. This will result in increased international interest in the country, as well as promote a positive image in the airport sector. With this series of developments, the new Jorge Chávez International Airport is envisioned as a symbol of progress and modernization for Peru, an infrastructure that will not only meet the transportation needs of the population but also become an engine for economic and social development for future generations.
