In an ambitious move to transform Waterfoot into a cultural hub, Rossendale Council has unveiled a long-term vision that seeks to establish the town as a premier arts destination. The initiative is part of a larger £20 million Long Term Plan for Towns Deal that also encompasses Rawtenstall and Crawshawbooth, a strategy designed to revitalize the local economy and enhance the quality of life for residents. This transformative approach, which was initially proposed by the former Conservative government before the recent general election, has now been formally accepted by the council. At the heart of this endeavor is the draft Waterfoot master plan, which is set to be shared with the public for consultation this month. The council is keen to engage with residents, visitors, and stakeholders, encouraging everyone with a vested interest in Waterfoot to contribute to shaping its future. The proposals outlined in the master plan focus on revitalizing the town centre, aiming to boost its appeal, vibrancy, and overall aesthetic. These enhancements are expected to not only attract more visitors but also foster a sense of community pride among residents. Councillor Alyson Barnes, the leader of Rossendale Council, emphasized the importance of collective input, stating, "Together, we can shape a vibrant and thriving town centre that people are proud to live, work, and invest in." As part of the consultation process, the council is inviting feedback through an online survey, as well as hosting sessions at Waterfoot Old Library to ensure that the voices of those who live, work, and shop in the area are heard. This inclusive approach aims to create a shared vision for Waterfoot that reflects the desires and needs of the community. Additionally, last year, the council received £300,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity fund, further supporting the area’s development goals. This funding is expected to play a crucial role in the implementation of the master plan and the broader vision for Waterfoot. As the town embarks on this exciting journey towards becoming an arts town and a destination for outdoor exploration, the community's involvement will be essential. The council's commitment to fostering a vibrant town centre signals a new chapter for Waterfoot, one that promises growth, creativity, and a renewed sense of identity.
