The rains caused by tropical storm "Fabio" have unleashed severe flooding in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, leading to a series of problems with the infrastructure and safety of the area. On Tuesday afternoon, local authorities reported the closure of various roads due to the high risk they posed to both drivers and pedestrians. Images circulating on social media show the devastating impact of the rains, with streets in Cabo San Lucas transformed into rushing rivers. A particular incident that has caught the community's attention was the rescue of a motorcyclist who became trapped in a water current. The distress of a woman who shouted, "Let her go!" highlights the desperation of the moments leading up to the rescue, in which five men intervened to help him out of a critical situation. The Los Cabos City Council has issued a list of the roads that have been closed. Among them are the streets crossing Miguel Hidalgo and Calle Coronado, where the water reached over one meter in height, affecting the proximity of the IMSS Family Clinic 6. The closure of Avenida Centenario and Calle Morelos has also been reported, as well as the roads known as "Los Carrizales" and "Las Antenas," located in the Monte Bello and Puerto Nuevo areas. The situation is further complicated, as the Municipality has warned that the water currents can cause vehicles attempting to drive through these flooded areas to become stuck. The forecasts from the National Meteorological Service (SMN) are not encouraging and anticipate the possibility of waterspouts on the coasts of Baja California Sur, as well as wind gusts that could reach 70 km/h and elevated waves between 1 and 3 meters. The SMN, part of the National Water Commission (Conagua), has indicated that the rains and showers are also affecting other states on the Pacific coast, such as Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, and Sinaloa. The storm is expected to continue generating instability in the region, increasing the risk of flooding and other adverse weather phenomena. At the moment, "Fabio" is located 1,010 kilometers west of Manzanillo, Colima, and 580 kilometers south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas. The proximity of this weather phenomenon has prompted authorities to be on high alert and activate safety protocols to safeguard the population against the imminent arrival of severe weather conditions. Rescue teams and local authorities are constantly monitoring the situation, working to provide support to affected communities and ensure that necessary measures are maintained to prevent greater disasters. The community of Los Cabos is in a state of alert, and many residents are sharing their experiences and concerns through social media, which has allowed for the rapid dissemination of useful information for those in the area. Authorities are urging the public to avoid leaving their homes except in emergencies and to heed safety recommendations. The situation is still being assessed, and the impact of "Fabio" is expected to be felt in the coming hours, which could worsen the flooding issues in the region. The resilience of the Los Cabos community will once again be tested in the face of this natural phenomenon, and all efforts are directed at minimizing damage and protecting the lives of the inhabitants.
