The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued an alarming forecast for the coming hours, warning of heavy rains in several regions of the country, especially in Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Veracruz. These precipitation levels, which will range between 75 and 150 millimeters, are the result of atmospheric conditions generated by Tropical Storm Carlotta, currently located in the Pacific Ocean, and which is expected to have a direct impact on western Mexico. According to the SMN, the heavy rains may be accompanied by lightning strikes, wind gusts that could reach up to 70 kilometers per hour, and in some cases, hail. This situation poses a significant risk to the population, as the intense precipitation could lead to landslides and increased levels in rivers and streams, potentially resulting in overflow and flooding in vulnerable areas. Local authorities have been alerted and urged to take necessary measures to protect communities, especially in high-risk zones. With the arrival of the storm, the population is advised to remain vigilant to the warnings from the SMN and to follow the instructions from Civil Protection, who have reiterated the importance of acting cautiously in the face of these adverse weather conditions. In addition to the rains, the forecast includes the possibility of strong winds in various regions of the country. In the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, wind gusts are expected to reach up to 70 km/h, while in other states like Aguascalientes and Campeche, gusts could range between 40 and 60 km/h. This may generate dust storms in certain areas and, in the worst-case scenario, conditions favorable for the formation of whirlwinds in the northern part of the country. On the other hand, Tropical Storm Carlotta is located 580 km west-southwest of Playa Pérula, Jalisco, and is moving west-northwest. Although it will move away from the Mexican coast, its influence will continue to present unstable weather conditions. Additionally, a low-pressure area in the Pacific is being monitored, which could develop into a cyclone in the next 48 hours, adding a new element of uncertainty to the meteorological outlook. In contrast to the unstable weather in the south and west, the northwest and north of the country will face an extreme heat environment. Temperatures are predicted to reach up to 45 degrees Celsius in some states, including Baja California and Coahuila, necessitating precautions from the population to avoid heat strokes and other health issues related to rising temperatures. For metropolitan areas, such as the Valley of Mexico, a partly cloudy day is expected with temperatures ranging between 13 and 26 degrees Celsius. However, the possibility of rain and hail could disrupt this apparent calm. Citizens in Mexico City and Toluca should stay alert to weather updates, as the variability of the weather may bring surprises in the coming hours. In light of these extreme and changing conditions, authorities are calling on citizens to stay informed and take necessary measures, such as proper hydration and special attention to vulnerable individuals, such as children and the elderly. Prevention is key to minimizing the impacts of these meteorological phenomena. Finally, it is essential for the general population to remain vigilant. The upcoming rains could bring not only inconveniences but also serious risks to life and property. Authorities, along with the SMN, are working to provide the necessary information and ensure that communities are prepared to face this imminent climatic situation.
