The Government of Aragón has announced the deactivation of the Operational Situation 1-Level 1 of the Special Civil Protection Plan for Forest Fires in Aragón (PROCINFO) concerning the forest fire that had been declared in Luesia, Zaragoza. This incident, which consumed approximately 220 hectares of forested and agricultural land, has left behind a landscape of alert and caution in the region. Despite the deactivation of the alert level, authorities have decided to maintain a significant presence of resources in the affected area. Tonight, five ground crews, three firefighting vehicles, two bulldozers, nature protection agents, and firefighters from the Zaragoza Provincial Council will continue to work in the area to prevent any potential reactivation of the fire. The Director of Extinction, Paula Fernández, emphasized that, although the right flank of the fire has been quickly controlled, the left flank remains a point of concern. Fernández also highlighted the collaboration of the Luesia City Council, which called upon local farmers to assist in extinguishing efforts. This type of collaboration between administrations and the local community is crucial in the fight against fires, and its success reflects the importance of teamwork in emergency situations. On the other hand, the return of 15 people who had been evacuated from the Pígalo campsite as a precaution has been allowed, indicating that the situation has improved enough for these individuals to resume their activities in the area. However, the A-1204 road, which connects Luesia with Asín, remains closed, underscoring that there are still precautions to be taken due to the possibility of fire re-ignition. The context in which this fire occurred is concerning, as almost all of Aragón is currently under a red alert level for the risk of forest fires. The General Directorate of Forest Management has issued a warning covering 24 areas at risk, including regions such as Bajo Ebro Forestal, Maestrazgo, and the Eastern Pyrenees. The combination of high temperatures and low humidity has created a scenario conducive to the spread of fires. Experts warn that, due to the weather conditions, there is a possibility of high and very high-intensity fires, as well as fires that exceed the extinguishing capacity in large areas. This situation has led to the declaration of an alert, with fears that a Major Forest Fire (GIF) could be triggered at any moment. Authorities have urged the public to stay informed and follow safety recommendations. Prevention is key, and measures have been implemented to minimize the risk of new fires, including restrictions on the use of fire in natural spaces. Facing the forest fire season in Aragón requires not only the implementation of an effective extinguishing plan but also the collaboration of the community. The participation of farmers and citizens is essential to protect the natural resources and biodiversity of the region. The deactivation of the Operational Situation 1-Level 1 is a positive sign, but it is vital that both authorities and the public remain vigilant against any eventuality. The experience of this fire in Luesia should serve as a reminder of the fragility of the environment and the need to care for and preserve our ecosystems. The coming weeks will be crucial for managing forest fires in Aragón. With a large part of the community on alert, cooperation and constant vigilance will be key to facing the challenges posed by the summer season.
