The forest fire that has affected the municipality of El Pueyo de Araguás, in the region of Sobrarbe, has put the entire Aragon region on alert due to the danger of the flames spreading. Despite authorities reporting that the fire is showing favorable evolution and is on its way to stabilization, significant containment efforts by deployed personnel in the area are still ongoing. So far, it is estimated that around 150 hectares have been ravaged by the fire, creating an emergency situation that has necessitated the preventive evacuation of several population centers. The Operational Coordination Center (Cecop) has decided to allow the 37 people who were evacuated as a precautionary measure due to the advancing flames to return to their homes. This news has brought relief to the affected individuals, who will be able to go back to their residences after being relocated to safe places during the evacuation. However, authorities have communicated that firefighting efforts will continue with the same intensity, utilizing aerial and ground resources to contain the fire. The origin of the fire dates back to Tuesday, when a combine harvester accidentally sparked the flames in a cereal field in El Pueyo de Araguás. Faced with the rapid spread of the fire, the decision was made to preemptively evacuate residents of nearby communities, including Torrelisa, Araguás, and San Lorién, who were moved to designated temporary accommodations. Fortunately, no human casualties have been reported as a result of this incident, but the devastation to the flora and fauna in the area is evident. The coordination among the various emergency services has been crucial in carrying out evacuation and firefighting tasks. The presence of the Civil Guard, Civil Protection volunteers, and personnel from the Provincial Council of Huesca has been instrumental in the operations, ensuring the safety of evacuees and providing necessary logistical support to the teams deployed in the affected area. Additionally, the collaboration of the Spanish government, with the mobilization of firefighting aircraft, helicopters, and specialized personnel, has been essential in effectively combating the fire. In a gesture of solidarity and commitment to the affected community, various organizations such as the Red Cross, the Civil Protection Volunteers Group of Sobrarbe, and social workers from the Sobrarbe Region have joined efforts in firefighting and supporting evacuees. The restoration of electrical supply in the area, disrupted due to the fire, has been a priority for authorities to ensure the well-being of residents and facilitate firefighting efforts. The complexity of the terrain on the left side of the fire has posed a challenge for aerial operations, which have focused efforts in that area due to access difficulties. With the expectation that the fire will remain active in the coming hours, firefighting efforts are expected to continue with the same intensity, prioritizing the protection of the population and the affected ecosystem. Collaboration and joint efforts from all involved parties are crucial in addressing this emergency and mitigating its consequences in the Aragon region.
