The 28th edition of the Lima PUCP Film Festival is about to begin and promises to be a top-notch cinematic event that will not leave anyone indifferent. This year, the festival brings a very special novelty: the Peruvian Competition, a section that highlights national production and brings together eight films by distinguished Peruvian filmmakers such as Tito Catacora, Omar Forero, Joel Calero, Cesar Galindo, and Patricia Wiesse, among others. Within the Official Fiction Competition, three highly anticipated Peruvian films stand out: "Kinra" by Marco Panatonic, winner of the Mar del Plata Festival 2023, as well as "Reinas" by Klaudia Reynicke and "Raíz" by Franco García Becerra, both recognized at the Berlin Festival. Likewise, in the Official Documentary Competition, you can enjoy "El archivo bastardo" by Marianela Vega, representing Peruvian documentary talent. But the Lima PUCP Film Festival is not limited to national production alone, but also brings a selection of films from all over Latin America, many of them from the most important festivals in the world, promising a high-level cinematic competition. Among the festival's highlighted proposals is the tribute to the prestigious French filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin, known for works such as "Kings and Queen" or "A Christmas Tale," who will present a sample of his filmography, including his most recent work "Spectateurs!", premiered at the Cannes Festival. Additionally, the Acclaimed section will offer films from renowned international directors such as Leos Carax, Miguel Gomes, Jia Zhangke, and Coralie Fargeat, the latter with Demi Moore's outstanding performance in "The Substance." The PUCP Film Library will also celebrate its twentieth anniversary with the presentation of restored versions of classic films by Peruvian directors such as Nora de Izcue, Armando Robles Godoy, Francisco Lombardi, and more, highlighting their work in preserving the history of Peruvian cinema. The festival will feature tributes to the national filmmaker Mary Jiménez, a cycle dedicated to French cinema, Filmocorto in its sixteenth edition, and a decentralized exhibition that will bring part of the program to Arequipa and Chiclayo. This year's theme, "The Ritual of Cinema," invites us to reflect on the unique experience of enjoying a film in the dark room and how we prepare ourselves to live that special moment. With a varied and quality program, the Lima PUCP Film Festival is preparing to offer an unforgettable cinematic experience to all lovers of the seventh art.
