An 81-year-old man from Stafford is gearing up for an inspirational challenge that not only celebrates life but also honors the memory of his late wife. David Jones-Bratt, who is visually impaired due to age-related macular degeneration, has decided to embark on a series of five 10-mile walks to raise money for charity. Speaking about his motivation for the fundraiser, Mr. Jones-Bratt shared, "It devastated my year last year and I thought, this year - instead of feeling sorry for myself - let's do something positive." The tragic loss of his wife, Mary, who passed away suddenly while resting in his arms, prompted him to channel his grief into a purposeful endeavor. Despite his visual impairment, Mr. Jones-Bratt is no stranger to challenges or fundraising efforts. A seasoned philanthropist, he has a remarkable track record of organizing events and participating in marathons. His fundraising journey dates back to 1983 when he orchestrated the first Cannock Chase marathon. Over the years, he has completed over 50 marathons across the country, including the prestigious London Marathon on seven occasions. Notably, in 1985, Mr. Jones-Bratt undertook an extraordinary feat by running from John O'Groats to Lands End, showcasing his determination and resilience. His running exploits also include conquering the full length of the River Severn, highlighting his enduring commitment to charitable causes. For his upcoming "walk in the park" fundraiser, Mr. Jones-Bratt aims to support Asthma Relief and Thrombosis UK, two causes close to his heart. By embarking on this physical and philanthropic challenge, he not only pays tribute to his late wife but also exemplifies the power of turning adversity into altruism. As the community rallies behind Mr. Jones-Bratt in his latest endeavor, his story serves as a poignant reminder of the strength found in compassion and the ability to overcome personal hardships through acts of kindness. With each step he takes, he not only walks towards his fundraising goals but also inspires others to embrace positivity in the face of adversity.
