A few days before the end of the first month of the oral trial hearings against the leader of Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori, and 40 other individuals investigated in the "coctels" case, it has been revealed that the witnesses of the Public Ministry, under the direction of the prosecutor of the Special Team, José Domingo Pérez, are preparing to appear before the members of the Third Collegiate Criminal Court in the coming dates. This crucial stage of the judicial process is approaching with the expectation of clarifying the crimes of criminal organization, money laundering, and obstruction of justice that are being charged against the accused. In this sense, the technical defenses of the accused are also ready to present their testimonies in the hearings scheduled for the month of August. However, the concern lies in the overwhelming number of witnesses expected to be presented, as Prosecutor Pérez plans to bring 1,500 witnesses to support his case, while the accused plan to present around 500 witnesses in their defense, which could significantly extend the duration of the trial. The judges in charge of the 'Coctels' case have indicated that the magnitude of witnesses to testify represents a logistical challenge for the flow of the hearings, so it has been decided to hold them only twice a week during August. This measure is due to the workload of the judges of the Third Collegiate Criminal Court, who also handle other judicial cases. Among the first witnesses to appear are former executives of the Brazilian company Odebrecht, whose statements are considered crucial for the development of the trial. However, the recent suspension of international judicial cooperation by the Brazilian justice system and the refusal of Jorge Barata, former representative of Odebrecht in Peru, to testify in the trials have generated uncertainty in this process. Furthermore, the Brazilian justice system has confirmed the annulment of criminal proceedings against Marcelo Odebrecht, which poses a new scenario in the investigations. Despite this decision, the ongoing processes in Peru will not be affected, and Marcelo Odebrecht does not have a definitive sentence in the country nor is included in effective collaboration with the Public Ministry. The relevance of the statements of former Odebrecht officials in the "coctels" case and their potential impact on other judicial processes, such as the trial against former president Ollanta Humala and other individuals under investigation, has become a crucial aspect for the development of justice in the country. Prosecutor José Domingo Pérez has emphasized the importance of using these statements to support his arguments, adding an additional level of complexity to a judicial process that has captured national and international attention.
