Amidst the escalating violence in the region, the Gaza Strip has once again been the scene of a tragic toll of death and destruction. Israeli fire has claimed the lives of at least 64 Palestinians and left over a hundred injured in the past 24 hours, as reported by the Ministry of Health controlled by Hamas. The numbers are alarming: since the beginning of the bombings on October 7th, the death toll in Gaza has reached 38,983 people, with 89,727 injured. Most devastatingly, around 10,000 bodies remain trapped under the rubble, with rescue teams unable to access them, plunging the population into unimaginable grief and despair. Amidst this heart-wrenching panorama, massacres against entire families in the Gaza Strip are being denounced. Among the most striking cases is the bombing of the Khalifa family's house in the Bureij camp, where seven civilians lost their lives and several were injured. This atrocity adds to a long list of tragedies that have struck the Palestinian population in recent weeks. The refugee camps of Nuiserat and Bureij have been the target of intense attacks by Israeli forces, becoming the victims of indiscriminate violence that does not distinguish between civilians and combatants. Meanwhile, the Israeli Army claims to continue operating in the Strip by land, sea, and air, carrying out selective operations on various military structures, according to their official statement. Amidst this spiral of violence, the civilian population of Gaza suffers the consequences of a seemingly endless conflict. In Rafah, in the south of the Strip, and in other areas, more terrorist infrastructures have been discovered and underground tunnels dismantled, in an attempt to neutralize existing threats. Meanwhile, the bombings continue in Gaza, plunging the population into a state of constant terror and unease. This Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with his negotiating team to discuss a possible ceasefire agreement, amidst international pressures and calls from the hostages' families to stop the violence. In the midst of this desolate scenario, a call for peace and the restraint of violence is urgent. The international community must redouble efforts to stop this spiral of death and suffering that plagues Gaza, and seek political and diplomatic solutions to end a conflict that has already exacted a far too high price in human lives. It is imperative to put an end to the violence and pave the way for dialogue that allows for the construction of a future of peace and coexistence in the region.
