Controlled forest fire in Campanario: 750 hectares affected

The forest fire that has devastated large areas of land in the municipality of Campanario, Badajoz, has finally been brought under control and stabilized thanks to the joint efforts of aerial and ground resources deployed in the area. According to initial estimates, around 750 hectares of forest have been affected by the flames, causing concern among the region's inhabitants and mobilizing local and regional authorities to contain the emergency. The Forest Fire Fighting Plan of Extremadura (Infoex) has successfully deactivated the level 1 emergency after intense hours of work by the extinguishing teams. Since Friday afternoon, a total of 13 aircraft, including helicopters and seaplanes, joined in the fire control efforts, along with a significant presence of ground units and specialized personnel. The fire broke out in the municipalities of La Coronada, Orellana, and especially in Campanario, affecting properties such as Pie de Porro, El Toconal, and Fuente de los Romeros, among others. The magnitude of the fire required the mobilization of a large number of personnel, including natural environment agents, technicians, firefighters, heavy machinery, and emergency personnel. Throughout the night, around fifty workers remained in the area, fighting the flames and preventing the fire from spreading further. Despite the efforts, an active focus persisted near the Zújar River, keeping the extinguishing teams on alert and worrying the local population. The EX-115 road connecting Campanario with Orellana la Vieja was affected by the fire, requiring the closure of a section to facilitate control efforts. The collaboration of the Civil Guard and the Local Police was essential to ensure the safety of the workers and the general population, avoiding possible accidents in the area. The City Council of Campanario expressed its gratitude to all the teams and collaborators who participated in extinguishing the fire, highlighting the arduous work carried out during intense hours of labor.
