The candidate for General Comptroller of the Republic, César Aguilar Surichaqui, has sparked controversy by announcing that if elected, he will evaluate the continuity of the concurrent control implemented in the Comptroller's Office. During his interview with the subcommittee responsible for evaluating his candidacy, Aguilar Surichaqui expressed his concern about the results obtained so far, stating that concurrent control has not succeeded in reducing corruption rates in public administration, but rather they have increased. According to the candidate, concurrent control has not been effective in its purpose of combating corruption, and it is necessary to rethink its usefulness for the State. Aguilar Surichaqui pointed out the lack of training of auditors as a key factor in the failure of this system, as many of them are unclear about their roles and end up halting public works projects without justification. Another aspect highlighted by the candidate was the inefficient use of resources allocated to concurrent control, which remain inactive in Comptroller's Office bank accounts instead of being used for their original purpose. This situation, according to Aguilar Surichaqui, represents an opportunity cost, as these funds could be generating benefits for society instead of remaining idle. Furthermore, Aguilar Surichaqui called on Congress to repeal regulations that hinder the fight against corruption and anticipated that if appointed as comptroller, he will maintain a firm stance against any act of corruption, without establishing a policy of complicity with members of the Comptroller's Office. To strengthen the fight against corruption, the candidate proposed the reactivation of the Quick Action Unit of the Comptroller's Office, with the aim of carrying out operations and taking immediate measures against corruption in public administration. These actions seek to promote more effective and transparent management in controlling public resources. Following the suspension of the evaluation session of his candidacy, it is expected that on Monday, July 22nd, the debate and the vote on the final report will take place. César Aguilar Surichaqui's stance has sparked a debate on the effectiveness of concurrent control in the fight against corruption, raising expectations about possible changes in the internal control system in the country.
