The autonomous community at risk of forest fires The suffocating heat hanging over the national territory has also put Aragón on alert, with the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issuing warnings for high temperatures this Thursday and especially tomorrow, Friday. This episode of extreme heat has significantly increased the risk of forest fires throughout the autonomous community. In southern Aragón, particularly in Teruel, there are areas that have been classified as red alert for forest fires, while in most of the province of Zaragoza and in the central part of Huesca, the alert is at the orange level. In the northern region, except for the border with France, the risk level is yellow, as reported by the General Directorate of Forest Management of the Government of Aragón. The situation worsens this Friday with the declaration of a red alert for forest fires in central Aragón, covering much of Zaragoza and the central and southern parts of Huesca. In the rest of Huesca, the risk level is orange, except in the border area with France where the yellow level prevails. Aemet has issued an orange level warning for maximum temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees in the province of Zaragoza and in the Bajo Aragón region of Teruel, for today between 1 pm and 9 pm. Likewise, a yellow level warning has been declared for high temperatures in Southern Huesca, Central Huesca, Huesca Pyrenees, Albarracín, and Jiloca (Teruel) for this Thursday between 1 pm and 9 pm, with maximums ranging between 36 and 38 degrees depending on the area. For tomorrow, it is expected that the warning for maximum temperatures at the orange risk level will extend to almost the entire Aragonese community, except in the areas of Teruel such as Albarracín, Jiloca, Gúdar, and Maestrazgo, where maximum values of up to 36 degrees are expected. In light of this situation, the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies, under the Ministry of the Interior, has urged the population to follow the recommendations of each autonomous community regarding the periods allowed for burning stubble and the prevention of forest fires. The importance of not throwing cigarettes, garbage, and, above all, glass bottles that can act as a magnifying glass when exposed to the sun has been emphasized, recalling that many negligence cases are the cause of forest fires. The luminous panels of the Aragonese road network are already issuing warnings about the risk of forest fires in the coming days, highlighting that a slight decrease in temperatures is expected for Sunday. It is essential for the population to be aware of the seriousness of the situation and to collaborate in the prevention of fires during this period of high temperatures and drought in Aragón.
