The Ministry of Environment, Housing, and Spatial Planning has issued a forest fire risk alert for the upcoming days of July 18, 19, and 20 in the region of Castilla y León. This preventive measure is due to the high temperatures forecasted, along with the presence of strong winds that will increase the danger of potential fires spreading in the area. The State Meteorological Agency has also issued a special heatwave warning for those same days, exacerbating the situation in terms of fire risk. According to meteorological forecasts, a mass of hot air is expected to arrive at higher altitudes during July 18 and 19 in Castilla y León, which will lead to a significant increase in both maximum and minimum temperatures. This situation, combined with the withdrawal of this air mass starting on the 20th, will increase atmospheric instability and worsen the humidity conditions of the vegetation in the region, creating a favorable scenario for the spread of forest fires. Furthermore, winds with gusts exceeding 40 kilometers per hour are expected during the days of the 19th and 20th, which will accelerate the potential spread of fires. Both the Aemet and the firefighting operation Infocal of Castilla y León agree that this episode entails a significant increase in the likelihood of ignition and fire spread capacity, making it crucial to take extreme precautionary measures. In response to this situation, the Ministry of Environment has established a series of prohibitions, such as regulating the use of agricultural machinery under conditions of high temperatures and strong winds. It is recommended to suspend non-urgent tasks and have the necessary firefighting means in case fires are caused as a result of these activities. Likewise, the general population is urged to exercise extreme caution and take precautionary measures in their outdoor activities. It is important to remember that any slight carelessness can trigger a large-scale forest fire, so there is a call for individual responsibility from each person. In case of spotting a potential forest fire, citizens are urged to immediately contact the emergency number 112 to report the situation and allow for a quick and effective response from the firefighting services. Prevention and collaboration from everyone are key to avoiding tragedies and protecting our natural environment.
