The Minister of Labor, Javier Maurate, has announced important figures about the labor market in the country and has indicated that the National Labor Council (CNT) will be convened to discuss a possible increase in the minimum wage before 2025. During a press conference held this morning, Maurate emphasized that around 240,000 new jobs have been created in Metropolitan Lima, representing a 4.7% increase so far this year. He also highlighted that employment among women has grown by 6.3%, while for men the increase is 3.3%. However, when comparing these figures with pre-pandemic data, the minister pointed out that employment growth remains stagnant at 0%, attributed to years of political instability, social conflicts, and adverse natural phenomena. Despite this, Maurate expressed optimism by stating that 2024 will be a year of recovery and that 2025 will mark an economic takeoff, driven by important ongoing projects that will generate more jobs and production in the country. Regarding the possible increase in the minimum wage, Minister Maurate emphasized the importance of ensuring that this increase is responsible and does not negatively impact small and micro-enterprises. To address this issue, the National Labor Council will be convened, with the hope of reaching agreements before 2025. Maurate also highlighted the fundamental role of employment centers, which operate every day and offer services in all regions of the country, contributing to improving formal employment. In another aspect, the minister reported on the agreements signed during the recent visit of the President of the Republic to China, where collaboration was established to support productive activities over the next five years. These agreements cover sectors such as industry, technology, culture, and education, including the possibility of establishing an electric car factory in the future, as well as granting 20,000 scholarships to train digital talents in the country. Amidst these positive news, Maurate called for prudence and responsibility in managing wage and labor policies, emphasizing the importance of seeking a balance that benefits both workers and companies. With hopes pinned on economic recovery and the promotion of new projects, the Minister of Labor expressed confidence that the country will be able to overcome current labor challenges and move towards a future of sustainable growth and development.
