Jaime Graña assumes the general management of the Automotive Association of Peru. The Automotive Association of Peru (AAP) reported that Jaime Graña Belmont will be the new general manager of the automotive guild that brings together more than 240 companies in the country's sector. This executive will replace Adrián Revilla Vergara, who held this position from May 2019 until July 14 of the current year. The new general manager of the AAP has extensive experience in leadership positions in different economic sectors. He has held positions of responsibility in both national and foreign companies, including El Comercio, Diageo, and Procter & Gamble, among others. At the end of the first semester, a total of 75,521 light vehicles were sold, representing a 13% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. According to the AAP, the results have not been as expected, as they had anticipated a greater dynamism, especially starting in May when a recovery in the national economy was observed. On the other hand, in the heavy vehicle segment, sales reached 7,515 units, reporting a 4.4% annual growth. This result is explained by the increased activity in some economic sectors that demand these vehicles, such as the construction sector, which is recovering due to the increase in public spending on infrastructure works and maintenance, mainly by regional and local governments, in addition to the positive performance of the mining sector. The sale of minibuses and buses reached 1,286 units, accumulating a 25.5% expansion compared to the same period in 2023. This segment has shown the best performance so far this year, thanks to the recovery of economic activities such as interprovincial transportation and tourism-related activities. Finally, the sale of smaller vehicles between January and June 2024 reached 164,318 units, a 4.4% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. The breakdown by segment shows that a total of 115,106 motorcycles were sold (-3.8%), while 49,212 trimotos were commercialized (-5.9%). The automotive sector in Peru has been the subject of analysis in the last semester, with figures reflecting a heterogeneous behavior in the different vehicle categories. While there is a decline in the sale of light vehicles, with a 13% decrease compared to the previous year, the heavy vehicle segment shows a growth of 4.4%, driven by demand in sectors such as construction and mining. The positive performance in the sale of minibuses and buses, with a growth of 25.5%, reflects the recovery of economic activities such as interprovincial transportation and tourism. This data is encouraging for the sector, as it indicates a revival in areas that were affected during the health crisis. In contrast, the commercialization of smaller vehicles, such as motorcycles and trimotos, has experienced a decrease in sales, with declines of 3.8% and 5.9% respectively. This situation could be related to economic and consumption factors that impact buyers' preferences for certain types of vehicles. Jaime Graña's arrival as the general manager of the AAP in this context will be crucial to drive strategies that promote the reactivation and sustained growth of the automotive sector in the country. With his leadership and management experience, it is expected that he can provide innovative solutions and strengthen the relationship among guild companies to tackle current challenges. In summary, the automotive sector in Peru is undergoing a period of transformation and adaptation to new market dynamics. With the appointment of Jaime Graña Belmont as the new general manager of the AAP, a path of opportunities and challenges is envisioned, which will require the joint efforts of all involved parties to boost growth and competitiveness in the industry in the country.
