The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen as hundreds of food sacks remain undistributed at the border between Israel and the Strip, while Palestinian families are plunged into desperation and hunger. The dispute between Israel and the UN over the responsibility for aid distribution has led to a worrying stalemate that exacerbates the crisis in the region. Despite the temporary ceasefire in certain areas observed by the Israeli army, humanitarian agencies face serious challenges in delivering necessary assistance to the southern Gaza. Looting and attacks on aid convoys by armed groups have hindered distribution efforts, posing a constant danger to humanitarian workers and limiting the population's access to food and basic supplies. Georgios Petropoulos, from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Gaza, denounces the increase in looting and insecurity surrounding aid distribution, noting that a large part of the goods intended for the population has been stolen along the way. The lack of a clear plan to maintain civil order in Gaza following the Israeli military offensive against Hamas has created a power vacuum that worsens the situation. Cogat, the Israeli military body responsible for operating the crossings, has argued that the accumulation of aid at the border is partly due to the insufficient logistical capacity of international organizations. Amid mutual accusations and a growing humanitarian crisis, the need for effective coordination and a genuine commitment to ensure equitable distribution of aid becomes imperative. Humanitarian aid agencies, such as the American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera), have intensified their efforts to deliver assistance to those in need, recruiting new workers and volunteers. However, ongoing violence and instability in the region greatly hinder their work, putting the lives of those dedicated to helping the most vulnerable at risk. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is exacerbated by access restrictions imposed by Israel and the active warfare situation in the region. Recent Israeli bombings have damaged aid organizations' infrastructure, limiting their ability to operate and distribute assistance effectively. The lack of access to storage and distribution centers, especially in areas like Rafah, has deepened the crisis and created a vicious cycle of desperation and looting. The population is forced to resort to extreme measures to obtain food and basic supplies, while aid organizations struggle to overcome obstacles hindering their humanitarian work. As international aid decreases and the humanitarian crisis worsens, it is urgent to find sustainable solutions to ensure that assistance reaches those most in need in Gaza. The international community must redouble its efforts to coordinate aid distribution effectively and safely, preventing desperation and insecurity from further exacerbating the situation in the region. Cooperation between Israel, the UN, and humanitarian organizations is essential to overcome current challenges and provide support to the Palestinian population amid this unprecedented crisis.
