In a somber display of unity and remembrance, Home Farm Primary School in Bradford has come together to honor the memory of Denisty Gawith, nine, and Oscar Birtle, eight, who tragically lost their lives in a house fire that also claimed the life of their mother, Bryonie Gawith, 29, and their baby sister, Aubree Birtle, just 22 months old. The devastating incident, which occurred in the early hours of August 21 on Westbury Road, has left the local community reeling with grief. The school, where Denisty and Oscar were beloved pupils, expressed its profound sorrow through heartfelt statements from its headteacher, Joanne Poole. She conveyed that the news of the children's untimely passing was "difficult to comprehend," reflecting the shock and disbelief felt by staff and students alike. "We are a family at Home Farm and our hearts are broken by the tragic passing of Denisty, Oscar, Aubree, and mum, Bryonie," Poole stated, highlighting the close-knit nature of the school community. Denisty and Oscar were remembered as “lovely pupils who embraced school life,” described as happy children full of character, whose bright futures now remain tragically unfulfilled. Poole also paid tribute to Bryonie, noting her cheerful and positive demeanor, and expressed the school’s anticipation for baby Aubree’s future enrollment. "They will be very sadly missed and remembered with great fondness,” she added, as the school prepares to support children, staff, and families during this traumatic time. The circumstances surrounding the fire are still under investigation. West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in critical condition in hospital. Authorities have indicated that the incident is believed to be "domestic-related," shedding light on the complex and often painful realities surrounding such tragedies. As the community grapples with the loss of these young lives, many are coming together to offer support and solidarity. Vigils and memorials are expected in the days to come, honoring the memory of a family that touched the lives of so many. In a time of such sorrow, the strength of the Bradford community will undoubtedly shine as they remember Denisty, Oscar, Aubree, and Bryonie, ensuring that their spirits live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
