Known for her beloved portrayal of Donna Noble in the long-running series, Tate expressed her excitement, stating, "I'm delighted to be hosting this spectacular BBC Prom celebrating all things Doctor Who. I am so looking forward to immersing myself in the music of the brilliantly enduring, shape-shifting Whoniverse, and celebrating the Doctors' adventures (and maybe a few monsters) with you all." The Doctor Who Prom, making its much-anticipated return, will be a highlight of the BBC Proms, an annual classical music festival that draws music lovers from around the globe. Conducted by Alastair King and featuring the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the performance will showcase an impressive lineup that includes international star soprano Aida Garifullina and soloists such as Shahid Abbas Khan, Hollie Buhagiar, Lucie Jones, and Tobias Turley, alongside the London Philharmonic Choir. This year’s event promises to be a brand-new show that celebrates the latest adventures of the Doctor, with music composed by Murray Gold, who has been a pivotal figure in shaping the series' soundscape. The concert will feature specially arranged pieces from the most recent series, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, as well as tracks from the 60th-anniversary specials. Additionally, audiences can look forward to music from Segun Akinola, specifically crafted for Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor. The show will be enhanced by visually stunning sequences from the Doctor Who series projected on big screens throughout the hall, promising an immersive experience for attendees. Those familiar with the franchise can anticipate the return of classic monsters, along with a few surprises that are sure to delight both die-hard fans and newcomers alike. The Doctor Who Prom is scheduled for Bank Holiday Monday, August 26, with performances at 2:30 pm and 7 pm, the latter of which will broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and be available on BBC Sounds for 30 days.
