The recent introduction of Ryanair flights from Norwich Airport to popular European destinations has been met with enthusiasm, according to airport managing director Richard Pace. Since launching routes to Alicante, Faro, and Malta in April, the budget airline has seen a strong response from travelers, with most flights departing at near-full capacity. Pace highlighted the impressive uptake on these new routes, stating that the airport has been transporting between 9,000 and 10,000 customers weekly. "We’re having six flights a week to Alicante, Faro, and Malta, so it’s really going well," he remarked. The positive reception has encouraged the airport to consider expanding flight offerings next summer, signaling a promising trend for both the airline and regional travel. The collaboration between Norwich Airport and Ryanair aims to enhance customer choice while supporting the airline's UK expansion plans. This partnership has already yielded additional flights scheduled for the October half-term holiday, and Ryanair will maintain its connection to Alicante throughout the winter months. "That just shows you what support we’ve had from the local traveling public," Pace added, underscoring the importance of community backing in this venture. Norwich Airport, located just 2.5 miles north of the city center, boasts a capacity to accommodate 1.2 million passengers annually. However, current operations are running at just under 500,000 passengers, a figure that reflects ongoing recovery efforts following the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. "Obviously, we've got a long way to go to reach that capacity," Pace acknowledged, emphasizing the airport's commitment to regaining its full operational potential. In the broader context of the airline industry, Ryanair recently reported a near 50% drop in profits, yet remains optimistic about offering lower fares for the upcoming summer season. This could further stimulate travel demand and enhance the attractiveness of Norwich Airport's new routes. As the region looks to the future, the successful launch of these Ryanair flights marks a significant milestone for Norwich Airport, promising to bolster local tourism and provide residents with greater access to sought-after holiday destinations across Europe.
