On July 21st, World Dog Day was commemorated, a day dedicated to honoring our faithful four-legged companions who throughout history have proven to be loyal and loving beings that become an indispensable part of our lives. On this occasion, the Red Cross Delegation in Acámbaro took the opportunity to pay tribute to Marshall, a rescue dog who dedicated her life to service and unfortunately passed away recently. Marshall, whose owner and friend was Carlos Pérez, was born on April 28, 2016, and from a young age joined the Red Cross Delegation in Acámbaro to be trained as part of the SAR K9 team. Her life was marked by constant training and preparation to face emergency situations, whether in natural disasters or in the search for missing persons in mountainous areas or extensive zones affected by tragedies. Marshall's work as a rescue dog was not limited to Acámbaro, but extended to different places in the country and the world. She participated in rescue efforts during the 2017 earthquake in Mexico City, as well as in emergency situations in Guerrero, Panama, and Ecuador. Her commitment and bravery made her an invaluable member of the search and rescue team, being recognized for her dedication and commitment in every mission she participated in. Unfortunately, Marshall fell ill a few months ago with kidney failure, which ultimately led to her passing. Her departure has left a void in the community of rescuers and in the heart of Carlos Pérez, who is deeply affected by the loss of his friend and companion in so many endeavors. In an emotional tribute held at the facilities of the Red Cross Delegation in Acámbaro, the valuable service provided by Marshall in various emergency situations was recognized. The institution's staff conducted a roll call in her honor, recalling her courage and dedication in every operation she participated in. Subsequently, a procession was held with Red Cross units and volunteer firefighters from the region, as a gesture of respect and gratitude for Marshall's work. Marshall's ashes will be kept at Carlos Pérez's home, thus keeping her legacy alive in the place where she shared so many experiences and memorable moments with her owner. Her departure leaves a void in the community of rescuers, but her example of dedication and bravery will continue to inspire all those who knew her story and her tireless work in favor of others. In this sense, Marshall becomes a symbol of sacrifice, loyalty, and selfless service, reminding us of the fundamental role that rescue dogs play in emergencies and disasters. Her legacy will endure in the memory of those who had the privilege of knowing her and working by her side, demonstrating that even in the animal world, there are heroes who deserve to be remembered and honored for their courage and unconditional dedication.
