In December 1999, Argentina saw the beginning of a new era with the inauguration of Fernando de la Rúa as president, ending a decade of Carlos Menem's government. During Menem's administration, the country was shaken by numerous corruption scandals that led to the prosecution of over a hundred officials, leaving an indelible stain on Argentine politics. With the appointment of Ricardo Gil Lavedra as Minister of Justice, the Anti-Corruption Office was created, tasked with investigating and denouncing a long list of corruption cases that had occurred during the Menem era. This was an important first step in the fight against corruption in Argentina, setting a precedent for future governments. Subsequently, during Mauricio Macri's administration, after over a decade of Kirchnerist government, the country faced at least 20 corruption cases involving officials from the previous government. Cases such as the Bribery Notebooks, Odebrecht, and accusations against Cristina Kirchner, Julio de Vido, Lázaro Báez, and Cristóbal López, among others, marked this period. Now, at the beginning of Javier Milei's government, after four years of Alberto Fernández and Cristina Kirchner, a different landscape is observed in terms of corruption allegations. While some accusations have been made against social organizations and piquetero leaders for alleged irregularities in the handling of public funds, the number of Kirchnerist ex-officials denounced in comparison to the cases uncovered is notably low. In this context, the Justice system has charged former President Alberto Fernández for alleged irregularities related to the participation of brokers in insurance agreements with state agencies, according to complaints made by the media and exposed by the former head of Anses, Osvaldo Giordano. However, these accusations have not progressed significantly so far. Experts consulted on this issue point out the importance of conducting audits at the beginning of a new government to detect possible irregularities and file the corresponding complaints with the Justice system. In this sense, bodies such as the National Audit Office (SIGEN) play a fundamental role in reporting acts that may cause harm to public assets. In areas such as education, various irregularities have been detected during the current administration, such as the case of the Conectar Igualdad program, where computers were purchased at excessive prices compared to other countries. Similarly, similar situations have been found in state-owned companies such as Arsat, which provided services at inflated prices. Furthermore, alleged irregularities have been discovered in international agreements, such as the case of scholarships with Germany, and the existence of "ghost" universities in the Buenos Aires Conurbano during the Kirchnerist government. These cases raise questions about the lack of progress in criminal complaints, leading to questioning of possible political agreements behind this situation. In summary, the fight against corruption in Argentina remains a constant challenge that requires firm action by authorities and the Justice system to ensure transparency in public management and accountability. The mentioned cases highlight the importance of thoroughly investigating any indication of corruption and bringing those responsible to justice to eradicate this scourge that has caused so much harm to the country.
